The first World Fencing Day was marked in Vancouver, Canada, with an afternoon of sport and friendly competition in the spirit of Solidarity. The fencers ranged in age from ten to sixty, and came from across the city to watch and take part. The highlight of the afternoon was a team competition which saw every fencer take the floor. At the end of the day, the exhausted but happy participants each received a certificate from the FIE as a keepsake.
