LAUSANNE, Switz., Sept. 15, 2021—The fifth-annual World Fencing Day celebrated all those who make up the essence of the sport with the theme “We are Fencing”. The global fencing community responded by embracing everyone as integral members of the “Nation of Fencing”, no matter their role, whether volunteer, athlete, parent, nominated or elected official, administrator, official, referee or coach.
Fencing had a diversity of global online support for World Fencing Day, with more than 3,500 media tags across multiple social media platforms expressing a diversity of fencing perspectives, activities and people postings from more than 60 countries—doubling the number of participating countries from the first World Fencing Day in 2017—and reaching over 100,000 accounts. About World Fencing Day. On World Fencing Day, taking place annually on Saturday of the second weekend in September, Olympic and World Championship athletes, local fencing clubs, national fencing federations and fencing coaches all join to demonstrate fencing in their regions. A significant number of the FIE’s 155 member federations from every corner of the planet engage in a variety of activities, and federations, clubs, athletes, individuals, manufacturers and fans who love fencing all join in the festivities.
