“Rio Loves Fencing!” FIE launches dedicated Rio 2016 portal

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has launched a dedicated portal for the Olympic Games, mapping out the Road to Rio for sports fans the world over.

The site rio2016.fie.org showcases news, multimedia, and the provisional Olympic qualification standings, among a wealth of other interactive content.

“Our portal represents the world’s premier hub for fencing content in the run-up to the Games,” said Frédéric Pietruszka, the Secretary General of the FIE.

“There’s something for everyone: Fencing fans can discover more about their favorite athletes, journalists can apply for accreditation to test events, and more general sport enthusiasts can decide which fencers to follow at the Olympics themselves,” he added.

The mobile-friendly portal features videos on some of the leading athletes, highlights from this year’s Olympic qualification events, photo galleries and, soon, a social media wall, which rounds up the fencing chatter from around the world on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, YouTube and other platforms.

There is a rundown of the rules, weapon by weapon, a clickable calendar for the remaining qualification events, and explainers of how the scoring and refereeing works.

Journalists wishing to access ranking and profile data on individual fencers can do so through the drop-down menu under the fie.org heading.

The rio2016.fie.org portal is available in all three official FIE languages: English, French and Spanish. It is a key pillar in the FIE’s digital communications strategy leading up to the Games.
