Olympic Fencer Weds at World’s Oldest Fencing Club

GHENT, Belgium, August 24 2018—It was yet another way fencing and culture come together, in keeping with the forthcoming activities and events celebrating World Fencing Day on September 8. At the oldest existing fencing club in the world, the Confrérie Saint-Michel in Ghent, Belgian Olympic sabre fencer Seppe Van Holsbeke married Eveline Criel. In a long-standing fencing tradition, the couple received a fencing honour guard and 53 fencers posed in the beautiful setting of ‘het Gravensteen. The groom’s best man was another club member and former Belgian epee champion, Laurent Ghijs.
