FIE Hong Kong Sports Medicine Conference 2026 - A multidisciplinary approach to Health, Performance and Safety in modern fencing

Athletes first!

With athletes at the core of the FIE Strategic plan, the FIE is announcing the FIE Hong Kong Sports Medicine Conference: A multidisciplinary approach to Health, Performance and Safety in modern fencing, that will take place on 23 July 2026 on the sidelines of the upcoming Senior World Championships.

This prestigious event is built in alignment with the mission of the IOC Health, Medicine and Science Commission and aims first and foremost to protect fencers’ health, adopting a holistic approach encompassing injury prevention and treatment, training load, competition support, operations on the FOP, data collection and analysis, food and nutrition, and mental health before, during and after the competition.

The conference marks a milestone in the realization of the FIE Medical Commission Strategic Plan 2025–2028 that is focused on athlete safety, innovation, research, and education. It aligns with the broader FIE goals of global development, integrity, and digitalization.

The scientific programme is tailored for sports physicians, physiotherapists, coaches, and sports scientists, covering the entire spectrum of elite athlete management:

  • Keynote - Multidisciplinary Care: Focuses on injury trends in international fencing and the integration of medical support.
  • Injury Prevention and Biomechanics: Covers epidemiology, biomechanical demands, and training load monitoring.
  • Athlete Safety and Competition Support: Features the Fencing Injury Surveillance System (FISS), concussion management, and environmental stressors.
  • Performance and Wellbeing: Addresses recovery interventions, nutrition strategies (RED-S), and mental focus.

The programme was developed by the governing body of the Conference, composed of eminent professionals of the FIE Medical Commission:

This discussion brings together professionals from fencing’s sport and science community and aims to showcase sport-specific as well as more general knowledge in the realm of fencing to foster the health and wellness of our athletes.

Speaking formats will include live, virtual and recorded presentations, as well as in-person printed poster and e-poster presentations.

The FIE Medical Commission is committed to presenting practical and theorical tools designed to improve the performance of fencers while simultaneously protecting their health at the highest level.
