China and Korea Win Team Men’s Epee and Women’s Foil at Bangkok Asia-Oceania Fencing Championships

BANGKOK, Thailand, June 21, 2018—The Chinese men’s epee and Korean women’s epee teams earned gold medals at the Bangkok Asia-Oceania Zonal Fencing Championships. This was the fifth day of competition, with a total of six days of fencing featuring 12 individual and team events scheduled on the Rangsit Campus of Bangkok’s Thammasat University. Thirty-five teams competed in the day’s events.

The Chinese men’s epee team had a very close win in the final match, defeating Kazakhstan by a single point, 45-44. Kazakhstan beat Korea in the semi-final, 45-39, while China overcame Uzbekistan, 45-40. The bronze medal went to Uzbekistan after defeating Korea, 45-43.

In women’s team foil competition, it was another close finish with Korea winning against Japan, 45-44. Japan beat China by a single touch, as well, in the semi-final, 43-42, while Korean defeated Hong Kong, 45-18. China earned the bronze medal against Hong Kong, 41-20.

The overall top-eight rankings for men’s team epee at the Bangkok Asia-Oceania Zonal Fencing Championships included China (gold), Kazakhstan (silver), Uzbekistan (bronze), Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Iran and Chinese Taipei.

The top-eight rankings for women’s team foil included Korea (gold), Japan (silver), China (bronze), Hong Kong, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Philippines and Vietnam.
