USA Victorious in Men’s Foil and Women’s Epee at Pan American Zonal Fencing Championships

HAVANA, Cuba, June 19, 2018—The USA men’s foil and women’s epee teams took both gold medals on the fifth day of the 2018 Pan American Zonal Fencing Championships in Havana, Cuba. Twenty-eight teams participated in the two events from throughout the Americas. In all, six days including 12 individual and team competitions are taking place, hosted at Havana’s Coliseum of the Sports City.

In team men’s foil, the USA fenced Brazil in the final round, winning with a 45-14 score. In the semi-final round, Brazil beat Puerto Rico, 45-33, while USA overtook Canada, 45-20. Canada fenced Puerto Rico for the bronze medal, winning with a 45-37 result.

In team women’s epee, the USA took on Canada in the final round, with a final score of 45-33. The semi-final rounds were both very close, with Canada beating Brazil, 45-44, and USA edging-out Cuba, also 45-44. The bronze medal went to Cuba over Brazil, 45-35.

The overall top-eight ranking for team men’s foil includes USA (gold), Brazil (silver), Canada (bronze), Puerto Rico, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.

In team women’s epee, the top-eight ranking includes USA (gold), Canada (silver), Cuba (bronze), Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico and Costa Rica.
