
Nearly 850 of the world’s elite sabreurs and foilists will be duelling for gold this weekend across three World Cups: women’s and men’s foil in Cairo, Egypt, women’s sabre in Athens, Greece, and men’s sabre in Padua, Italy.
On the women’s side in Cairo, two fencers to watch are Alice Volpi of Italy, who won the Grand Prix in Lima, Peru in March, and Jaelyn Liu of the United States of America, who repeated as double champion in both junior and cadets in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil earlier this month.

For the men, the focus will be on Italy’s Guillaume Bianchi, who has won the last two Grand Prix in Lima, Peru in March and Turin, Italy in February and the rejuvenated two-time defending Olympic Champion Cheung Ka Long of Hong Kong, China, who took bronze in Lima and Turin.
In Athens, the fencers to watch are Yoana Ilieva, who took a silver at the last World cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in March, and the two-time World Champion (Cairo, Egypt 2022 & Milan, Italy 2023) Emura Misaki, who earned silver at both the Salt Lake City, United States World Cup and Tunis, Tunisia Grand Prix in January.

In Padua, all eyes will be on Will Morrill of the United States, who won the last World Cup in Budapest, Hungary in March and took silver at the Junior Worlds two weeks ago in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The nineteen-year-old has risen to tenth in the Senior rankings.
