Inspired and supported by the FIE President in early 2014, provisionally named “Club Movement Project” and subsequently rebranded into the CMI (Club Movement Initiative), today the international network includes locations in 6 countries (GER, USA, RUS, FRA, ITA, JPN) along with 4 other locations ready to join (1 in CHN and 3 in ITA).
The CMI is designed to revise the Global fencing development system by elevating the level and broadening the base of worldwide fencing, especially in emerging fencing countries and regions, through networking the established infrastructure of the World’s best-performing clubs/locations under the auspices of the FIE.
Generating the boost enabling to reshape (or even revise) the existing development system – is one of the goals on the way to comply with Olympic Agenda 2020.
The team running the project includes the group of FIE Sport Department specialists (Director – Dr. Krisztian Kulcsar) and the CMI Coordinator (Mr. Rodion Plitukhin).
The CMI team is studying the infrastructure and coaching and training practices of the leading National Federations in order to select the most effective ones and then to integrate them into the Global network that will provide productive management and transfer of practical knowledge.
So far, the tripartite “Memoranda of Understanding” (FIE+NF+Club) have been signed in GER, USA, RUS, FRA, ITA, JPN. They created the basic foundation of cooperation between the FIE, corresponding National Federations and the Clubs/Centers.
A consulting body – the “Clubs Council” – will be created shortly after the CMI network formalization in order to coordinate it’s work and maximize “Return on Investment”.
Major costs of the CMI are assumed by the FIE while the National Federations and Clubs of the network undertake to provide infrastructure, access to their talent equity and effective participation of their relevant staff.
In Q4, 2014 two training courses for coaches were hosted by
Fencers Club in New York and by Tauberbischofsheim Fencing Club – renown for their high performance and state-of-the-art facilities (the latter is the home club of the IOC President Mr. Thomas Bach).
By the end of Q1, 2015 CMI enabled 4 leading clubs in GER, USA, ITA, FRA to host 58 coaches from Europe, Pan-American and Mediterranean regions, Northern Africa and Middle East.
The Curricula of these Coaching Advancement Sessions are custom tailored by local professionals – Maestros, Maîtres d’Armes, Gurus – based on the template developed by the FIE’s Coaches Council. A vivid example of synergy – Global vision is taking customized shape with authentic, traditional attitude and “know how”.
