Born in Senegal, of Lebanese origins, he grew up in France and received citizenship there. He represented France until 2010, at which point he returned to Senegal. "In 2010 I was contacted by the Senegal Fencing Federation. I accepted their invitation to return and defend the colours of Senegal."
