SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, July 25, 2019—With great sadness, the FIE reports the passing of Gregorio Lima on July 25 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 80 years of age.
Mr. Lima was an FIE Veteran’s Council member since 2016. A member of the Puerto Rico Fencing Federation since 1980, he served as its vice president for 25 years and president from 2010 to 2017. He was a lawyer by profession with a doctorate in law.
The FIE and global fencing family have lost one of our members who was appreciated and respected by everyone. Mr. Lima ceaselessly gave the best of himself, devoting all his energy to the cause of our sport. He was an outstanding leader who contributed significantly to the expansion of fencing.
We offer our sincerest condolences to his friends and family, and to the Puerto Rico Fencing Federation, and we express our deepest sympathies during this difficult time.
