Haiti Holds National Fencing Championships

PETION-VILLE, Haiti, December 27, 2018—The 2018 Haiti National Fencing Championships completed in Petion-Ville, with about 30 foil fencers competing in youth and senior categories. Overall, the West Department took the most medals in the country, at the top of the medal standings with seven gold, four silver and one bronze. The Escrime Archelois Club finished first with two gold medals and one silver.

Other clubs participating, ranked in order, included Club Triumph, Club Rayon, and Club Elite Center Department. Fencer ages ranged between eight and 25 years, and the event took place at the Alamanda Hotel in Petion-Ville.

There has been a recent push to develop fencing in Haiti by the Haitian Fencing Federation (FHE) and to garner support from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, in addition to the sport’s existing support from the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH).
