FIE Elective Congress 2016

LAUSANNE (November 18) – The International Fencing Federation is preparing for its annual Congress, which takes place in Moscow on November 27, 2016.

The 95th FIE Congress will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, and a press conference will follow. The focus of the 2016 Congress will be the election by secret ballot of the FIE President, the Executive Committee and the six Commissions.

At the Elective Congress, which is held during an Olympic year, the President, the Executive Committee and the members of the permanent commissions are elected for four-year terms. Those elected members take office on the first day of the month following the closing day of the Olympic Games or of the Elective Congress, whichever is the latter.

As a general rule, Congress establishes, controls and steers the policy of the FIE. It determines the modifications to be made to the Statutes and the Rules for the competitions.

Each year Congress receives reports on the management of the Executive Committee and on the operation and financial situation of the FIE. It will examine and amend or approve the proposed budget for 2017.

Other items on the agenda include a vote on the host city for the 2018 Cadet and Junior Fencing World Championships, the 2019 Senior Fencing World Championships, and the candidatures for the 2019 Cadet/Junior and Veteran Fencing World Championships.
