LAUSANNE (September 6) – With the successes of the Olympic fencing competition still fresh in the memory, it’s the turn of the Paralympians to inspire and entertain at Rio 2016.
Part of the Paralympic Games since Rome 1960, the first edition, wheelchair fencing comes to Rio 2016 with 14 medal events for individuals and teams.
According to the official Wheelchair Fencing guide, the sport was first introduced at the Stoke Mandeville Games in 1954, by Sir Ludwig Guttmann, and has been ever-present since.
In the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, 88 fencers will compete in 10 individual and four team events.
Around 680 hours of coverage from 13 sports will be live streamed on 15 High Definition channels on the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) website (Paralympic.org) during the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
