Fencing World Cup – Women’s sabre in Athens – Men’s sabre in Padua, 29-31 January 2016

This coming weekend in Greece, the city of Athens and the Hellenic Fencing Federation host the Fencing World Cup in Women’s sabre, which will see the top female fencers participating in individual and team events. A total of 190 athletes have registered, a record in Women’s sabre World Cup. Previously, the largest event in terms of participation was in Orleans, with 184 athletes.

The preliminaries for individual competition begin on Friday 29th and the event closes on Sunday 31st with the team finals at the Athens Olympic Complex (O.A.K.A).

In the neighbouring country of Italy, the Italian Fencing Federation and the Organising Committee of the “Trofeo Luxardo” are organising the Fencing World Cup in Men’s sabre, featuring both individual and team competitions. The event will take place between 29th and 31st January 2016 at the Kioene Arena, in Padua. A total of 193 sabre fencers will be seeking to improve their position in the FIE rankings and to qualify for the Olympics Games Rio 2016.
