Death of Ildikó Tordasi (HUN)

It is with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Mrs. Ildikó Tordasi at the age of 63.

Ildikó Tordasi was gold medalist of the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games in individual women’s foil. As an athlete of the Club MTK, pupil of master Bertalan Szőcs she has earned 15 Olympic and World Championship medals during her sports career.

After the unforgettable Ilona Elek another one of the three Hungarian women’s foil individual Olympic Champions has passed away. Her Olympic victory in Montreal certainly remains an everlasting memory for the lovers of our sport, however she won another 14 Olympic and World Championship medals, including a World Championship gold medal in women’s foil team.

She was a top athlete of our beloved sport, one of the most successful Hungarian women’s foil fencers. She has always been fencing for her club MTK, and after her fencing career she has been a coach there for decades. Her memory will be remembered forever.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to his family, friends and to the Hungarian Fencing Federation in these difficult times.
