Egypt Dominates at the African Senior Zonal Championships
The African Senior Zonal Championships were held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and Egypt captured ten of the twelve gold medals.
The competition, which included 167 fencers, took place from June 1-5 at the Coliseum du palais des sports de Treichville. Egypt won four of the six individual events and swept all six of the team events.

The largest field was in men’s individual epee, with 40 fencers. Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Mohamed Elsayed took the gold by defeating Houssam Elkord of Morocco 15-10.
The bronze medals went to Mahmoud Elsayed of Egypt and Pavel Tychler of South Africa.

Sara Amr Hossny of Egypt edged Maxine Isabel Esteban of the Ivory Coast 15-14 to take the gold in women’s individual foil in a field of 17.
Yasmine Soussi of Tunisia and Noha Hany of Egypt earned bronze medals.

The men’s individual sabre field of 27 included 5 of the top 22 fencers in the world rankings. Egypt swept the medals. The 3rd-ranked Ahmed Hesham of Egypt defeated his 15th-ranked countrymate Ziad Elsissy 15-14 to take the hard-fought gold.
The bronze medals went to the 22nd-ranked Mohamed Amer and 20th-ranked Adham Moataz.
In the quarterfinals, Amer scored a 15-14 victory over the 15th-ranked and Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist Fares Ferjani of Tunisia.

Women’s individual epee had a field of 33 fencers and world ranked #11 Alexandra Ndolo of Kenya defeated Oceane Tahe of the Ivory Coast 15-11 to earn her spot on the top of the podium.
Bronze medals went to Egyptians Nardin Ehab and Loulwa Soliman.

World ranked #12 Abdelrahman Tolba of Egypt topped a field of 27 in men’s individual foil when he defeated Noe Robin of Senegal 15-7 to take the gold. Robin scored an upset in the semifinals with a 15-14 victory over world-ranked #8 Mohamed Hamza of Egypt.
Hamza and Luis Macedo of Angola took the bronze medals.

In women’s individual sabre, Zohra Nora Kehli of Algeria defeated Yasmine Daghfous of Tunisia 15-9 to win gold in a field of 18.
Bronze medals went to Abik Boungab of Algeria and Nagwa Nofal of Egypt.

Egypt defeated the Ivory Coast 45-26 to win gold in men’s team epee. Algeria scored a narrow 45-42 victory over Libya to take the bronze medal.

Egypt scored a resounding victory in women’s team foil by defeating Algeria 45-12. Senegal beat the Ivory Coast 45-28 to take the bronze.
