The final weekend of the men's senior sabre regular season concluded with a commanding display of elite fencing as reigning Olympic Champion Oh Sanguk captured the gold medal at the Cairo World Cup. Serving as the fifth and final individual World Cup before the zonal and World Championships, the tournament saw the 23rd-ranked South Korean secure his third individual podium of the 2025–26 campaign, following his earlier gold in Salt Lake City and bronze in Algiers.
Oh’s march to the top step of the podium required navigating an exceptionally competitive direct elimination bracket. He began his day by edging past the recent Padua World Cup winner, Kamil Ibragimov, 15-13, followed by a tight 15-12 victory over the United States' 2025 Pan American bronze medallist Antonio Heathcock. In the round of 16, Oh withstood a fierce challenge from 2024 Junior World Champion Vlad Covaliu of Romania, progressing with a narrow 15-14 win. Oh then hit his stride in the later rounds, systematically dismantling reigning European Champion Remi Garrigue of France 15-8, before stunning the current World Champion and World No. 1 Sandro Bazadze 15-8 in the semi-finals.

The gold medal bout featured a high-stakes clash against the United States’ sixth-ranked Colin Heathcock, the reigning Pan American Champion. Heathcock reached the final after an imposing run that included eliminating triple Olympic Champion Aron Szilagyi 15-12 in the round of 16, followed by a tight 15-14 quarterfinal victory over reigning Asian Champion Do Gyeongdong of Korea. In the final, however, Oh proved utterly dominant. He established control early in the bout and halted the two-time Junior World Champion's offensive patterns, cruising to a comprehensive 15-8 victory to secure the Cairo World Cup crown.
The bronze medals were claimed by World No. 1 Sandro Bazadze of Georgia and Germany’s eleventh-ranked Frederic Kindler. Bazadze secured his second podium of the month—having previously taken bronze at the Incheon Grand Prix—following strong wins over regional bronze medallist Kaito Streets of Japan (15-4) and reigning Pan American silver medallist William Morrill of the United States (15-10). Kindler, a 2025 European individual bronze medallist, locked down his second global podium of the season following his silver medal finish at the Orléans Grand Prix. His impressive run featured tight 15-14 triumphs over Japan's Yoshida Kento and Italy's 2025 Junior World Champion Cosimo Bertini, solidifying a world-class top four as the elite sabre contingent transitions into the championship post-season.
