The Fencing Grand Prix Series successfully completed its first season here in Moscow with the men's and women's Sabre competitions. All the top Sabre fencers are competing for qualification to the Olympics in Rio 2016. Moscow will host the Fencing World Championships in July and the Fencing Grand Prix has showcased the city and the organisers’ preparations very well.
The first day of the competition started with qualification in the men's Sabre and continued on the second day with the table of 64. The gold medal in men's Sabre went to Tiberiu Dolniceanu (ROU) who defeated Matyas Szabo of Germany in the final. The two bronze medals were awarded to the Hungarians, Tamas Decsi and Aron Szilagyi. In the table of 8, Bongil Gu of Korea lost against Szabo 10-15. Two Russian fencers, Kamil Ibragimov and Nikolay Kovalev, competed against each other in the table of 16 with Ibragimov qualifying and competing against Decsi in the round of 8.
