In November 2023 he had a brain haemorrhage during a competition. "I was at a competition and I started to feel, slowly, my left leg losing strength and feeling. The competition doctor immediately made me stop and sent me for an MRI. And we discovered the haemorrhage. I can say I was lucky. If it had gone differently we wouldn't be here today talking about it. It was not clear what the cause was. The bleeding just started and stopped without causing any damage. I lost the mobility of my left leg. The first days I was unable to move and was very scared. I thought I would not be able to compete again and also I was worried about my life. However, I did four months of rehabilitation. My career was paused for quite some time but everything went well.
