Russia Wins Double Team Foil Gold at Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Poland

TORUN, Poland, April 11, 2019—Junior men’s and women’s foil teams from Russia took both gold medals on the sixth of nine days of fencing competition at the 2019 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Torun, Poland. There were 33 men’s and 28 women’s international foil teams participating.

Russia faced France in the final match of junior men’s team foil, with Russia taking the gold, 45-38. France beat Italy in the semi-finals, 40-36, while Russia overcame USA, 45-32. Italy took the bronze medal over USA, 45-40.

In junior women’s team foil, Russia defeated Japan, 39-32, in the gold-medal round. Japan beat France in the semi-final round, 44-32, and Russia eliminated Korea, 45-33. The bronze medal went to Korea over France, 45-42.

Final ranking in junior men’s team foil included Russia (gold), France (silver), Italy (bronze), USA, Japan, Poland, Great Britain and Singapore. Junior women’s team foil ranking included Russia (gold), Japan (silver), Korea (bronze), France, Canada, Singapore, USA and Germany.
