He took up fencing thanks to his older brother, who later joined the military and served in the Kosovo War in the late 1990s. Jerent has a tattoo on his left side of a prayer his brother wrote to him while on active service. "Since that day this prayer has accompanied me through life. I recite it before my matches or when things aren't going well. My brother means a lot to me." (rio2016.fie.org, 16 Mar 2016)

In June 2021 the French Fencing Federation removed him from the team selected for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo as a precaution, as he was under investigation by the French Anti-Doping Agency [AFLD] after returning an adverse analytical finding for the prohibited substance dorzolamide in November 2020. He was not sanctioned by the AFLD after it was confirmed the substance had entered his body through blood transfusions he received while being treated for injuries sustained in a car accident in 2020. He returned to competition in November 2021. (Instagram profile, 23 Nov 2021; lequipe.fr, 18 Nov 2021, 17 Nov 2021, 18 Jun 2021; lessor.org, 19 Nov 2021)

He was suspended for one year by the French Anti-Doping Agency [AFLD] after failing three times to notify his whereabouts for out-of-competition tests between December 2017 and May 2018. His suspension ran from 23 May 2018. "This situation was due to negligence from me regarding the AFLD rules."
