Famous relatives His partner Carolina Erba has also competed internationally in fencing for Italy. She won gold in the team foil event at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and finished sixth in the 2016 Italian national championships in Rieti. Other information ILLNESS
In September 2016 he was released from hospital after recovering from a pulmonary embolism, caused by an unknown infection. He began suffering from a high fever and stomach cramps while on holiday in Sri Lanka with his partner. On returning to Italy he was hospitalised in Rome, and after spending 20 days in solitary confinement he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right lung. (comunicatistampa.net, 02 Sep 2016)
