Other information RETIREMENT
In July 2020 he announced his retirement via social media. "After almost 15 years we officially end here my career as an athlete. I find it necessary to thank those who brought me this far. Not only the technical staff but also and especially the medical staff, because without them many times I couldn't even have entered the piste. Thank you." (Facebook page, 17 Jul 2020)
In September 2016 he was released from hospital after recovering from a pulmonary embolism, caused by an unknown infection. He began suffering from a high fever and stomach cramps while on holiday in Sri Lanka. On returning to Italy he was hospitalised in Rome, and after spending 20 days in solitary confinement he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right lung. (comunicatistampa.net, 02 Sep 2016)
