When and where did you begin this sport? She began fencing in grade six of primary school in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.
Why this sport? Her father knew a teacher from the fencing club at Wakayama Kita High School, and encouraged her to try the sport. "My father always wanted me to get involved in sports."

She decided to delay her retirement from competitive fencing following the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "I don't know whether I will continue to be an athlete after the 2020 Olympics [speaking in 2020], but I'm thinking I will get involved in activities that will raise awareness of the sport."
