In July 2020 he announced his retirement via social media. "After almost 15 years we officially end here my career as an athlete. I find it necessary to thank those who brought me this far. ILLNESS
In September 2016 he was released from hospital after recovering from a pulmonary embolism, caused by an unknown infection. He began suffering from a high fever and stomach cramps while on holiday in Sri Lanka.
