DOSB PERSONAL MEMBER
In late 2018 he was appointed as a personal member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation [DOSB]. The 15 personal members are elected by the General Assembly of the DOSB, and can vote on governance issues. At the 2018 DOSB General Assembly meeting in Dusseldorf, he nominated the president of the German Triathlon Union, Martin Engelhardt, as a challenger to Alfons Hormann for the role of president of the DOSB. Hormann, the incumbent president, won the subsequent vote, which was a first in DOSB history. "I find it surprising that many people said nominating Martin Engelhardt was courageous. In Dusseldorf I got the impression that there is a general fear of having open discussions. But as long as you behave fairly and follow the rules of the game, it is healthy to have debates. Hormann said after his victory that he wanted to introduce a new style of leadership. The main thing is that it will bring about something good for the sport, regardless of who is in charge."
