Press Release: 2012 FIE Electoral Congress in Moscow (RUS)

Lausanne, 28 November 2012 – The 2012 FIE Electoral Congress will take place on 8th December in Moscow, Russia. Alisher USMANOV who was elected FIE president in 2008 is running for a second term as FIE president.

The FIE Congress will also elect a new Executive Committee and vote for the members of commissions.

In addition, the Congress will make decisions about the host cities of the 2014 senior world championships, the 2013 junior world championships as well as the 2013 veteran world championships.

140 out of 146 national federations have enrolled for the Congress and more than 300 people are expected to participate.

During the annual FIE Gala Dinner, the 2012 top ranked junior and senior fencers will be honoured. They will each receive the FIE golden medal.

“We will continue the positive trends and initiatives which have been established over the past four years. We will also raise standards in fencing around the world and support national federations. It is crucial that we improve the image of fencing and take greater steps to advance the sport. We must work together to reach our ambitious goals and I count on the support of the whole fencing community to achieve this,” said Mr. Usmanov in the run-up to the Congress.
