Pan Am Juniors & Cadets Duel in Havana for Fencing Gold

HAVANA, Cuba--Nearly 500 junior and cadet fencing athletes duelled in spirited fencing events at the Pan American Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships in Havana, Cuba, from March 1-7. Participation in the Championships broke records for past years, with 18 events taking place for men and women in foil, sabre, and epee in both youth categories, and in individual and team tournaments.

The USA dominated the event, taking gold in 10 of the 18 events, with Mexico winning four events, followed by Chile with two gold medals, and Canada and Brazil each taking a single first place. The tournament qualifies and seeds many young fencers for the upcoming Junior & Cadet World Fencing Championships taking place from April 1-10 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The Pan American Fencing Confederation, affiliated with the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), comprises 32 national fencing federations from the Americas. The organization was started in 1951 and holds the Championships annually.

Official results for the Championships may be found here.
