Sport Specific Information

When and where did you begin this sport? She began fencing at age nine at Krakow Fencing Club in Poland.

Why this sport? After taking part in ballet for three years as a child, she wanted to play a competitive sport. She was deemed too old to start training in pole vault and turned to fencing, which she thought looked fun. "It was by accident that my mother was redirected to the fencing section. I went to a recruitment session at Krakow Fencing Club and I immediately fell in love with the sport. My weapon is the epee, because in Krakow it was not possible to practise sabre or foil."

Sporting philosophy / motto "Fencing is a unique sport because it's highly unpredictable and everything depends on how you feel on the day, or if you enjoy fighting a given opponent. It's incredible that you can beat anyone but you can also lose to anyone. I think that makes fencing a great sport." (Ckultura YouTube channel, 22 Mar 2022)

STOLEN EQUIPMENT
After competing in a Polish Cup event in Warsaw in December 2019, her equipment bag was stolen from her car. Her coach, club and the Gramy Do Konca Foundation, which provides funding for athletes in Poland, donated replacement equipment. "Someone broke the window in our car and took all my things. A bag, swords, plastron [body protector] and fencing jacket. Without it, I couldn't train. Bartlomiej Czaja, the president of the Gramy do Konca Foundation, contacted me with help, and I received a sword and a body cord, for which I am very grateful. My coach Radoslaw Zawrotniak also helped me a lot, he donated some of his equipment, the club bought the rest so I could train normally." (gazetekrakowska.pl, 23 Jan 2020)
